Payton Joins With Lakers: Full Story

Saturday, August 23 2003

Since he came into the NBA 13 years ago, he has always been considered a threat on the court offensively and also defensively. He has been named to the All-Star team seven straight seasons, has been on the NBA all defensive team eight straight seasons, and has set an NBA Playoffs record with 13 three-point attempts in one half against the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the 1996 Western Conference Semifinals. Recently, he has teamed up with Kobe Shaq, and Malone as one of the Fab Four. Many people believe that the Lakers are going to be an unstoppable force and with Payton teamed up and Malone joining, they will be a team to be reckoned with.

In the past few years, the Lakers have had questionable defense, to go with there impressive offense. If Payton makes it through pre-season, their defense will be very strong, and strong enough to win them a title. Another flaw with the Lakers is assists. They dont pass the ball as much as Phil Jackson, the head coach of the Lakers, would like. With the addition of Gary Payton, they hope that this problem can become a strength.

Gary Payton has come to LA to win a championship. He has done everything in his power including leading his team to the playoffs and playing in all-star games. A championship is the main thing that he wants. He and Karl Malone have taken huge pay cuts to join them. This will be for something that they havent experienced. If him and the Lakers get their act together for the season, it will be a very memorable year for them.
